Hey all, hope everyone had a great Christmas. I was working on my Birth year world coin collection this morning, adding a few coins to my album so I thought I'd snap a few pictures and share. I have the album set up Alphabetically and the intent is just to have 1 coin from each country/territory. I still have some coins to go through that @Mountain Man graciously sent me a while back. I try to be organized so everything gets recorded and photographed and I keep a spreadsheet. Well, anyway just thought I'd share. Slowly plugging holes
Do you have the Hungarian spot filled? If not I can send you a lovely Proof coin. No charge, just your address. Merry Christmas!!
Thank you for sharing. Your album is looking good and I love the 2x2 with the country flag and information on them. I hope you can use the coins I sent you and fill lots of slots. Please continue to keep us informed, with current pictures of the album. In case members reading this post are unaware, Jeepfreak81 is trying to put together a World album with just coins from 1981 (his birth year), from all over the world. PM him for his address if you have some you would like to donate to his endeavor.
@Jeepfreak81 Excellent start on this quest. I'm attaching pictures of mine. I collected coins from every country in circulation in 1966. The only coins I didn't include were the gold coins (a little out of the price range). Below are some pictures of how I did it. I am still missing two coins that I have not been able to find in over two and a half years. Anybody have them please contact me. 1966 50 Paisa (small date) - Nepal 1966 1 Rupee - Nepal
That's very nice of you, Canada is one of the easiest for me to get as I live only an hour from the border. I actually have a few nice proofs from 1981 as well. I appreciate the offer though. Oooh I like that, I may expand and do something similar to what you have there once I get 1 representation from each country (or as close as I can reasonably get). I just picked up 2 lbs of foreign coins, I'll keep my eyes open for 1966 Nepal coins just in case I happen across what you need.
Great theme! Very snazzy how you added the little flag labels, too. Looks like @Histman did something similar. Both excellent collections. I once thought about doing 1965 but never got around to it.
You've gotten my wheels turning (always a dangerous thing). I'm wondering did you only include coins MINTED in 1966, or any coin that was being circulated and in use for that year? I'm playing around on Numista with filters to get an idea of how large my collection would be based on various requirements. Also, do you know roughly how large your collection shown there is? I know it would be easier to find the coins that were circulating in a given year vs minted in a given year however, it would also increase the size of the collection.
I used Numista as well. I only collected coins minted in 1966 for circulation. 1966 is my birth year. So the coin is year stamped 1966. I collected every denomination, not just one from each country. So, for example, the US - Cent, Nickel, Dime, Quarter, and Half-Dollar. I also got a specimen for different mint marks for that denomination. The total is 427 coins from 78 countries.
Impressive, I'm thinking ahead to once I acquire 1 coin of any denomination, I can expand to 1 coin of each denomination. It's fun to paw through a couple pounds of foreign coins and my kids take some interest as well with all the various designs you see.
I have a handful of world coins I need to go through I'll make a note to keep an eye out for you, if I have one you're welcome to it. I'll let you know
I wasn't looking for any @jeep as I live in Wales, what I meant was if you didn't have these I would send you some
haha ooooh gotcha, my year is 1981 Guess that's why I was confused, and I do have a couple from the UK for 1981. Appreciate the offer though.
Wow!!!!!! I absolutely LOVE this idea!!! I've been trying to collect "one of every county" but... I can't help think I want to do this too (1983)! LOVE the flags and clarity on your 2x2s. Much respect! Thanks for sharing!
