I've been looking for safe binders for coins and the ones sold at coin suppliers usually don't say what they are made of, so I assume it's not great. I did find archival quality binders that specify exactly what the materials are and they seem great, but, at $65-75 a pop, they are beyond my budget for now. At the local department store, they have binders that are "PVC free". The cardboard innards probably aren't great, but how bad would these be for coins in cardboard 2x2s in polypropylene binder pages? Thanks!
I use the lighthouse binders with slipcase now. Made in several sizes. I don't see that they mention what they are made of. They are a quality binder that looks good on my shelf. https://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/lighthouse-grande-binder-and-slipcase.html
I think for now I'll just use regular pvc free office binders for my low value coins. Please chime in if you know of problems from the cardboard with these. The more expensive ones will have to wait or just be for coins that pass the say $5-20 mark sometime down the road. Thank you for the reply!
I got binders at garage sales and Goodwill. I have trouble believing a binder is going to ruin your coins.
I have also been looking for an archival safe (PVC free) binder. I would prefer a standard size 3-ring binder with a slip cover. Ideally it would look like and old, leather bound book. Any suggestions?
I saw some PVC free at Target and they seem pretty standard for a lot of binder companies, but it did say "PVC free" on the front label so look for that description. Each company like Avery or Oxford has at least some with the PVC free label. I didn't see any that were leather looking. The coin supply places have binders that look more like that, but they do not list materials on any that I've seen so I'm a bit wary. Good luck! Please post here if you find anything!
