A friend of mine who does not know coins was in Cairo last week, Despite not knowing much of what to look for but having a good eye for antiquities, I tasked them with finding me some early silver coins, pre UAR. This was one of their purchases, an 1916 20 piaster (qirsh) minted during the British occupation. The first time the Gregorian date was added (and in 'western' numbers) to Egyptian coinage. 28 grams, 0.833 silver
The fake Egyptian big silver coins are abundant now.. So, please do take care while buying these coins.. And if it is from Egypt, it should be genuine.. excellent coin !!! thanx for posting..:thumb:
