BIE cent info please

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by peachymargarita, Dec 3, 2006.

  1. Are there any online references or books, how archaic:p , on the subject of bie cents? I have already searched Coin Talk and found nothing. My question being are they more common among wheats? Is this a good find?

    Thanks,

    Michael

    Peachy:
There is an old reference that was produced in the early 1960's, I forget the author's name.
At that time the collecting of BIE's was very popular, and hot.
Since that time the fervor for them has cooled off considerably, and (to my knowledge) there hasen't been anything printed in recent years.
And, yes, apparently, they are more common on wheaties, but that may be because they were more popular back then and are not as frequently reported today.
    By the way, nice picture.

I sent you a PM Micheal. There are no modern reference books on BIEs. I heard that John Wexler was going to publish one but that was about 4 years ago.

  6. So is this coin more of a neat to hold on to kind of thing? No value past me finding it? I mean I have looked for years and this is the first one I have found.

    Thanks,

    Michael

I don't believe the 1995 is scarce. I've seen them listed on ebay numerous times. And if it was scarce it still might not get much because there's not that many people that collect BIEs anymore. It's was a speciality that died when the BIE Guild died. I bought a 1958 BIER (a break after the E instead of before) for $5 last year on ebay. I was the only bidder. Yet this is a scarce date and is listed in Jean Cohen's 2nd edition for $15 which was major money for a BIE in 1969 when the book was published.

I'd would hold on to it. You never know, collecting BIEs could come back someday. Stranger things have happened in coin collecting. Stranger things are happening right now in coin collecting. :rolling:
