Again, took a little break from the coin circuit. Had a nice trip to Texas to visit with some family over the Thanksgiving holiday. Hope you all had a nice Holiday as well.

Now that I'm back in SoCal, I'm back to hunting down some cool coins. Last week, I was pretty successful in finding some nice stuff at the local bid boards.

The coolest item I was able to get was a 1923 BU Peace Dollar which was counterstamped for the Sept. 5-17, 1978 Camp David Peace Summit between Carter, Begin and Sadat. Just under 1,000 of these counterstamps were made and they are highly demanded by collectors. I was hoping that none of the other bidders realized the value of this item, but there was some intense competition for it because of its rarity and its overall eye appeal. I didn't get it cheap, but I'm glad I was able to win it:

Usually, when a coin is counterstamped, the opposite side of coin is pushed out and shows obvious signs of the counterstamp. That doesn't seem to be the case with this particular counterstamp.

I also picked up a couple of U.S. type coins. The first, an 1810 Large Cent which was pretty worn, but didn't have the usual corrosion that is found on Classic Head Large Cents. Also, for under $10 I was happy to be the winner. The other coin was a 1917 Type One Standing Liberty Quarter in maybe VG condition. It wasn't exactly cheap, but it was priced well enough for me to be the winner:

I also picked up a couple of foreign coins which I felt were interesting. The first is a 1964 30 Drachmai from Greece which commemorates the wedding of Anne Marie and Constantine. The coin appeared to be gem to me and I knew it had .3221 ounces of actual silver weight. Since I was able to win it for just under the silver melt price, I felt it was a must buy.

The next coin is an 1883 2 1/2 cent piece from the Netherlands. The auction tag listed no details other than that, but it looked cool and appeared to be in good shape and the minimum bid was only $1. No one else bid so I was the winner. After I got home and looked up the coin, I found that the mintage was only 400,000 and it's a key date! Not too shabby!

Wow you did good in this haul.

That Large Cent is nice, rarely see one without the issues the series has. I need that coin for my type set but most are expensive & of course corroded.

The greek is a beauty & the netherlands cent is luck. I have a few but fairly worn. Not sure if they are keys.
