Ok, so seeing as im able to spend some of my own money every other week I think i'll let it be known what I got. I also realize that I have still not purchased a coin book but dont really want to yet, I just want to have some fun buying what catches my eye. Ok so this is what I got today. 2x 03 and 05 1oz Silver Libertads @ $43.78 1x 1974-S Ike dollar @ $6.00 1x 1776-1976-S bicent Ike dollar @$6.00 1x 2010 new roll of shield pennies @$3.00 banks in my town had none so 3dollars was better then any online price. 2x 1895 and 1906 Indian head pennies @$5.90 1x 1936-F Buffalo Nickel @.90 1x 1951-S wheat penny @.40 this and the Nickel were just to get rid of some change and plus I have no buffalo nickels. So how did I do?
The "F" stands for Fraser, the designers initials Joe. Please do buy the "book" but other than that, I'd say your're havin' fun.....:smile
Doesn't look too bad. Maybe a bit high on the prices, but not terribly so. I agree with green's advice: Spend a little bit on books about coins, and then read them. Start with the "Red book" and then branch out to whatever interests you. You'd be surprised at how much more efficient your buying will be when you have knowledge to back it up.
Don't want to buy the book? Go to the library, or better yet, find all the answers you need on-line. It's also fun to collect what you want without worrying about details.
Except for the 1936-F, which there is no mintmark F, not bad. Especially on the Ikes, about $4 - $10 under book price. FYI, the "F" on the Buffalo nickel is the initial of the designer James Earle Fraser. He had 3 native american chiefs sit as models for the design on the obverse. The mintmark for the Buffalo nickels are on the reverse under "FIVE CENTS".
Yeah trust me I value all the advise I receive on CT and in time I will get the books, for now I'm just having fun and adding things that I dont have to begin with.
