Bi-Partisan COINS Act Introduced in Senate (Could this be the end or the $1 Bill?)

The dollar coin is rolling along! We have some great news to share with you.




Yesterday, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Senator John McCain (R-AZ) took a stand for taxpayer savings by introducing the Currency, Optimization, Innovation and National Savings Act, S. 2049 in the Senate. Harkin and McCain were joined by original co-sponsors Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK and Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY).




This is a companion bill to Rep. David Schweikert’s COINS Act, HR 2977 in the House. The House bill has the bi-partisan support of 11 co-sponsors.With bi-partisan bills in both the Senate and the House, we are well on our way towards eliminating the wasteful dollar bill from circulation and saving taxpayers billions of dollars in the process. According to the Government Accountability Office this move will save at least $184 million dollars per year.

I am going to write my Congressmen about this issue, and tell them to include either a redesigned $2 bill, or a bimetallic $2 coin in the COINS act.
