    Hey all,

I received some bi-metallic coins a great lot of coins I bought off of e-bay. The only problem is, they are dirty with some black garbage. Could it be verdigris? What does that stuff look like? Is there a way to clean bi-metallic coins? I know, I know... Don't clean coins. but these need it badly. I'm not sure where the person I bought these coins from stored them, but many of the coins, the brass in particular have this gunk. HELP!

I assume they are not worth a whole lot but have no idea what you have there, no pics posted, no series, dates/mm mentioned...

soak in distilled water, give it as long as they need to soften that gunk to allow it to lift off, but it might do nothing in the soaking. consider cleaning in warm soapy* water and air dry on soft surface.
    *not glycerin, non-alcohol, non-fragranced...

verdigris is a range of colors, usually green, hence it's name. there are CT threads on the issue of corrosion/oxidation on coins, how to treat it/halt it.
