I could not believe my eyes when I found a set of 2007 pres. dollars graded NGC pf70 on sale at ShopatHometv.com for $799.95!!!! I had been led there by my unknowing 86 yr. old Grandmother who was only a phone call away from purchasing these coins because she had found out that I was looking into buying this high graded set for my collection. Now my Grandmother being the Grandchild spoiler that she is thankfully called my wife to make sure it was in fact the set I wanted. My wife being the busybody she is enquired about the price and was eventually told. One cell phone call later I was dutifully notified and by pure luck was able to squash my Grandmothers plans (can you believe I'm actually in hot water with her now!) Concerned about this (almost) transaction I called this ShopatHometv.com and after finally getting through to a live talking person I asked about this set and there price and was hoping for some kind of justification on there part, like that price is for 4 sets sir, not 1! But that never came. All that came was "yes sir that's the price...$799.95 plus shipping...and tax" I then tried to explain to this lower level cust. service rep. that there price was a tad off base to which I received a lecture on highly graded coins like these and that the price was actually down from the $1299.99 msrp. To shorten up this post I'll spare you all the next few minutes of our "conversation" and end saying it's a shame that these types of company's are able to thrive by selling way way overpriced item's to unsuspecting people like my Grandmother. So if any of you who read this know this company steer clear and tell your friends and family as well! It should be illegal to mark up merchandise that high! Shame on you ShopatHometv.com!
jef69la Thanks for the posting, and welcome again. There have been many postings about HSN and we can add this to the rip off listing. Sorry that Grandma is mad about not getting ripped off.
Good Advice... I watched some of these guys selling coins on the shopping networks while I was channel surfing last night. Everything I saw was two to three times the normal price for items that were on sale - one example was $79.95 for a common date uncertified Morgan, plus the salesman was pushing the 1904-O as a "rare date". A dealer friend of mine says these guys show up at shows and buy up tons of "problem", common date coins that can't be certified then advertise them as a "rare find", etc. The problem is that this will eventually give coin collecting and honest dealers a bad name when people try to sell and find out that the actual value of the coin is about 25% of what they paid..... Another one that seems way overpriced to me is CoinCountry on channel 216 on Dish Network. Near the end of their show it seemed like they were desperate by putting up a plethora of coins and prefacing them all with "make me an offer". Acer0001
