Between NGC and PCGS, which of the two are most lenient with the grade? Thinking of having some coins graded but want the best "bang for my buck."

IMO, generally, PCGS coins sell for more than NGC coins of the same grade. Does that mean that PCGS is more strict in their grading? I don't know. That may be the consensus, though.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other. I'd base my decision on price.

i understand completely and i agree pcgs do sell for more but not in all case i have more pcgs then ngc coins but love them equally !! really at the end of the day if your happy with the slab it protects the coin and gives you a good idea of what you got then it is a job well done by either company !!1

there is nothing wrong with ANACS graded and slabbed coins no matter what a few others may claim. they are the oldest and IMO the best grading company . try all three companys NGC , PCGS and ANACS and I bet ANACS will treat you better than any of the other companys and they do a great job. folks will come to realize this . just because NGC and ANACS charges more for their fees does not mean they are any better.

If better grades are what you want, then send them to one of the bottom feeders like NTC or NNC.

I think PCGS already copyrighted that technique.

PCGS would have you believe that NGC is more lenient and buyers would have you believe the same thing but truth be told, it doesn't really matter.

I see overgraded coins in both NGC and PCGS holders. PCGS will get more in auctions most of the time, but that does not make them "better". Buy the coin, not the holder.

We've had many threads on this topic--same answer as per always--The PCGS and NGC are basically equal in terms of grading. Their coins are similarly graded, and represent the best of what there is in terms of TPGs.

It depends on what coin you are talking about. With some series NGC is more lenient, and with some series PCGS is more lenient.

edit - if you are thinking about submitting some coins, post pics of them here first. It may save you some money.

as Doug says, it very much depends upon the series. NGC is tougher on some, and PCGS is tougher on others.
Overall from what I've seen, NGC is more consistent with grades applied to the series of coins I am most interested in, and will generally provide a grade .5-.75 (averaged) or so higher than PCGS. PCGS is more variable in the series I like the most, meaning I've seen nearly identical coins (to my eyes) get different grades more often than I see from NGC.
Summary, it depends on the coin and series, post the pic and you'll get better feedback.
