Hi, I am new here. I have had a box of coins from all over that were given to me as a kid, but have never bothered researching them until recently. I am having trouble finding any easy way to identify the coins that I have, or determine their values. I would not want to bore everyone on this site with details or pics of each one, so what is the best way to organize them, and find out if any are of value? Any tips or hints would be great, thanks...

Check to see if a local library has a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins by Krause and Mishler. (The current edition is the 2005 Standard Catalog of World Coins, but you don't need the latest and most values don't change dramatically.)

For most of the coins, you can find a country name from the writing on the coin. If it says Pence or Shillings without a country name, try Great Britain. For other coins, the start of the catalog has several sections on identification. If you can't figure out a coin, feel free to ask for help.

The instructions for the care of non-valuable coins are fairly simple: don't clean them, don't store them in contact with PVC (soft, flexible plastic that smells like plastic), keep them dry, don't feed them after midnight.

    Welcome to the forum chad.

    You too, CannedMeat.
Your fellow new member has given you some excellent advice, and hasn't left much to add. :D

Most of the coins should be easily identifiable following his advice. The one in the upper right corner of your picture is from the Republic of China, and will be found in the Taiwan section of the listings. (I can't see enough detail to give you a denomination or date.)

You have a nice start on a world coins collection there. Enjoy!

    Yep. A nice variety:

I see: Austria, British Caribbean Territories, Canada, Estonia, Finland, Great Britain, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, New Zealand, Taiwan, USA, and Yugoslavia.
