I have alot of coins from when I first started collecting last year that i'm trying to figure out a way to get rid of them. When I first started collecting I bought all of these single proof coins and got ripped off really bad. They are just taking up alot of extra space right now. I would love to donate them or give them away but don't know where I can take them. Anyone got any ideas?

Hold a contest here at CoinTalk or if donating is your preference then give them to YNs either in here or if you have a local coin club that has YNs as members. The Boy Scouts have a coin collecting badge, maybe donate them to one of your local Boy Scout troups. Just a few suggestions.

Why not just put them all in one lot on ebay.

I'd suggest going to a local school, give a presentation to the children about coins and collecting, then proceed to hand out coins to the children.
If need be, go get some rolls from the bank and put into 2x2's to make sure you have enough for all of them.
Maybe put them all into a bag and have them reach in and pull one out.
That would make it so there were no choosing who to give what.

    Good Luck

It depends on how much work you're willing to put in. Ebay is likely to net the most money for the most work. A local coin dealer might give you a decent price if you ask for store credit instead of cash. That way you will at least walk away with something you want in exchange for something you don't want.

Who said he wanted to keep them as a collection?

Perhaps this is the best idea yet. It's likely to start at least one child collecting. The young collectors are what will perpetuate this hobby.

hi . i would ebay them and stat your story as they was part of your collecting and its time to past them on.

maybe if they are in a bucket just show a picture and give the weight of all of the coins. at least someone might go thru them before they are place back in circulation. :smile

If you don't need the money from them I'd hold a contest here at cointalk.

Another vote for distribution to YNs... It's not only a way to perpetuate the hobby, it's an act of kindness that will be remembered for a long time...

i vote to donate them to YN's. my son received a Washington 250th Birthday Commemorative from a random person at the June Baltimore Whitman show and hasn't stopped talking about it. this past show he was given a PCGS slab sample of a Jefferson nickel that has absolutely zero value in the slab, but not to him - he thinks it's worth a bazillion dollars.

    he is hooked.

    school idea has most karma

    coinstore trade is good also

    or.......

you could wrap them in rolls with each end showing a proof coin, regular circ in the middle not showing, and sell them on ebay as "found these in bank vault, unsearched PROOF rolls????????" most profit, lol
