I have alot of favorites, from the Walking Liberty to the Jefferson nickel to the Peace dollar. Right now, at least during this hour I am crazy about the mercury dime. I love that mercury lady, she looks alot like the Peace dollar lady, but different. How about you, what's your favorite coin right now? Pics are encouraged, but certainly not mandatory. I grabbed this one off of a website, it happens to be a 42/1
Went to the bank to look at my coins today... I still like this design, especially the raised stars on the edge which are unfortunately hidden while in the slab: I also really like these incused Indian gold coins:
A proof Walker, Buffalo and Winged Liberty Head dime are truly "the most beautiful 20th century coins" - they are unbelievable!!!
This question comes up a real lot on this an many other forums. And usually the answers are basically always the same. Basically what has already been stated. I don't think I've ever heard or read anyone saying the Jefferson Nickel or the Roosevelt Dime either. So is it just coin collectors that don't like the present stuff or is this the feelings of the entire population? If everyone likes the older types, why is it our government won't reinstate the ones we like? Why do they copy the Buffalo Nickel onto other coins but refuse to reinstate it as the Nickel? And now they made the Lincoln Cent look silly on the reverse too.
I like the older series of coins - say pre 1938 - because more relief was incorporated into the designs. Todays coins are not much better than plain ole slugs.
I prefer pre-64 designs, I do collect some modern but not many. The last great modern besides the Lincoln cents or gold was the Buffalo Silver Dollar of 2001 IMO. Also there are few and far between commemoratives which have been acceptable or equivalent to the Bay Bridge Bear 1936? or the Oregon Trail, Spanish Trail. Back in the day the mnt was whipping out really nice commems, not so much anymore. I wonder why?
There is nothing like a high grade peace dollar, or walking liberty half in my book, but I hear Barber halves are stunning in higher grades.
ok, since you twised my arm, here's some new pics of my 1909-O PCGS MS65 CAC Barber Half I really like the Barber designs as well:
Your collection is amazing!! Everytime you post your gold Indians they amaze me! All the same date and all, that really shows some umph! To be honest I really never much noticed Barber's but I love this one!! :thumb:
