Well, i was in the bank with my grandfather, and i took a peeksy at the SDB. I saw so much rare i cried almost. He would only let me "steal" 2 morgan dollars, out of alot i saw. I saw large cents, indian head nickels, eagles, double eagles, quarter eagles, pretty much anything, he had it. One of the morgans is a 1899-0 that is in EXTREMELY nice condition. Probably around XF or AU. The other is a 1921 thats toned up, but is also really nice. I've asked him for that as my inheritance, because all the other grandkids have no appreciation for coins. Being the oldest, i get choice of my inheritance. I really hope i can go back
Are you sure you were in a bank. WOW, I wish I could find that place. Tell grandpa to go back there and buy anything they will give him. You could be very rich some day if he does and someday gives it all to you.
Thanks for clearing that up :goof: He's definately got over a thousand worth of coinage in there, and ALOT was stolen by a baby sitter in the 70's. he had a whole collection of colonials that was stolen from him , and the worst part is : his grandfather gave it to him, whos grandfather gave it to him. sad..
lost coin That is a shame all those coins were stolen. if passed from generation to generation like that they were not only likely very vauable , but at that age there must have been a lot of history in those coins. The worst part is they were probably sold for peanuts. Well you can be glad there is as much left as there is. :smile
My grandfather's 1.5 million + gold collection (value in 1968) was stolen by a drug user and probably sold for nothing. He never looked at a coin again. Your lucky the whole collection wasn't taken.
yes, i know. My best friend's grandfather had a $1 gold piece set into a gold ring, it's stunning with the tiny rubies set around it. I'm definately not complaining about the collection i have still.
