I started collecting about a year ago and im trying to find out what is the best way to get coins to search. i know i go to banks but i would like to know how that usually goes for finding unique coins, key dates etc.... are there any other ways to get a mass amount of coins? i have also seen stuff on ebay for "unsearched" coin rolls but im highly suspicious about that. any advice would be extremely helpful.

My friend wrote a short piece regarding ebays unsearched rolls. Here is the link it's a quick but informative read --> Beware of Ebay unsearched rolls. Basically you shouldn't buy them thinking you're going to find major rarities, because most [not saying all] of these rolls have been doctored.

People have crimping machines and put 2 decent but not very expensive coins on the ends and fill it with commons and they sell well above what their worth.

I have searched a lot of bank wrapped rolls and will tell you this. If you're in this hobby to find the key dates, it's not going to happen very quickly. You'll amass a huge amount of lesser common to rare examples before finding [if ever] a key date coin.

    For example, I sorted over 6 million pennies and haven't found a 1909S, 1909S VDB, 1914D, 1924D, 1931S.

What I have been able to do is trade / sell the coins I find in my searching for cash or more desirable coins.

    Welcome to coin collecting!
