Hi, I was just curious what resources everybody uses to help determine different values of US currency. I’ve just recently purchased a Red Book which is really nice to have. Learning a great deal from it. But obviously there are different resources that can be utilized to help determine the values of currency. What sources do you like to use and feel are more accurate than others? Thanks.
I think most anyone would likely tell you that no resource is all inclusive. More often than not it's several informational sources that will dial in a realistic price range. Myself, when that need to buy a coin hits me, I usually start at the website below to begin to dial in my price expectations. I like it and find it easy to use. https://www.pcgs.com/prices/
I know the process my LCS uses is #1 - eBay sold prices, #2 - Greysheet, and #3 - Resent auction prices. He'll break out the Red Book for errors & varieties too. It's a shame that eBay dictates the prices, but that's what they have to do to compete and stay in business nowadays. Us average collectors don't stand a chance unless you want to just break even when trying to downsize.
Like it or not, market prices are reflected on ebay...not the highest or the lowest, not the asking prices, but an average of the sold prices of equivalent grade.
