Hey guys, I was curious who you thought was the best coin dealer on the internet. Sure eBay has some good deals, but what other sites besides eBay sell quality coins, at a reasonable price? Are there any specific sites that sell at a REALLY low price? Littleton coin seems decent, as well as Allen's online store. But then again, I am not as experienced in coin buying and finding as most people here. So I was just curious what you all thought.
Sure, Littleton Coin has great stuff, if you don't mind paying WAY more than you should....I prefer Ebay or Teletrade....although you have to really know what your doing for both.... Edited for typo
I dont buy alot of coins from online coin dealers but the ones that I have bought from I am happy with. L & C Coins is a good dealer for coins. Of course, we could suggest our picks of online coin dealers all day long but its really a personal preference. I may like a certain dealer but not everyone is going to agree. I buy alot of coins on ebay and am happy with it so far, but to bid safely on ebay you have to really be careful and know what you're doing. Here is a list of online dealers you can check out if you like. I cant recommend all of them, but try to stick with the ones thats been around for a while thats got a good reputation. Certainly ask them questions before you buy. http://www.coin-gallery.com/cguscoins.htm
L & C is great for modern slabbed sets and singles. I bought almost my entire set of PCGS pr69-dcam silver state quarters from them on ebay. I had to buy the 1999 set whole from the store tho, they dont ebay that one.
I can think of one that I would recommend, but I may be a little biased....lol. A few others I could recommend would be Mark Feld Rare Coins and Rich Urich Rare Coins.
O.K. I am defiantly biased. I like Black Mountain Coins, especially for bulk orders of World Coins. I find it difficult to get out, so I do a majority of my shopping online. They have always given me good deals, are courteous, and I have never had a problem with an order. I was impressed enough with their service and the quality of the coins that I became a moderator for their forums.
I completely agree with GDJMSP except Harlan J. Berk. I could rant on for hours about how lousy they are. Being a person that has gone into or by that place for many, many years, I could never find anything good to say about them. I also agree about Littleton. Lots of bad posts about them all over the place. Usually about high prices and getting people hooked on continuous coins in the mail. I'll add VTcoins to the list. Only purchased from him twice but some really decent coins for decent prices.
I made one purchase from Harlan J. Berk. No problems, but I'm a pretty small sample size. If you plan to buy modern commemoratives and bullion coins, the dealer [almost] doesn't matter. If you plan to buy coins with high numismatic premiums, the dealer is critical and you probably should stick to the recommended list unless you have a good reason to completely trust someone elses expertise and integrity.
For EBAY auctions, today I accidentally bid on Mercury Dimes without knowing they did not accept PayPal. Instead they had a site called BidPay. Anyone ever use it?
I really have to go along with that. It is a shame that some people just don't have as many coin shows as there are around me. Nothing like being able to see the coin, bargain with the prices, note how compitition makes for better deals, no lost in mail, no waiting for a bad surprize, no postage, great selections. Of course we have at least 3 coin shows a month within about 14 miles of my house. As you get to know dealers, there is always even better deals available.
I've never used BidPay to send money, but I have international buyers use BidPay to pay. Works great.
