That question is much harder than it sounds. Coins are like kids to me....I love them all differently. I love seated liberties for many reasons...age and beauty. Silver Washington quarters are what got me into coin collecting. I love the sound of silver dropping. Bust coins are beautiful. Shield nickels are very interesting. Buffalo nickels are awesome! I could go on forever... so I'll list a few of my least favorite. Roosevelt dimes Jefferson nickels Mercury dimes are ok...I just don't love them as much State quarters
For the US, I would have to go with the St. Gauden For World Coins, my favorite would have to be the Canadian Holograms.
i dont really know. ilike them all i like the washinton series quarters two reasons 1.the eagle obverse. he looks majestic and beutiful and also stands for freedom. 2. mr washington. history mercury dimes 1. i absolutely love the design of the winged liberty. mrgan dollars 1. i like the design but really dont collect these. (yet) out of all coinage the franklin half dollar has got me. for more reasons than i can list.
I think the answer is: It depends (current coins, older coins, what era, regular coinage / commemratives / bullion coins, what country, etc. etc.). Well, here is a couple: 1. U.S. Coin, of all time: St. Gaudens $20 Gold (1907-1933), especially the 1907 high relief. 2. Second Place: Bust Dollar (1796 - 1804) These are just beautiful, artistic renditions of Liberty which, IMHO, captures what our founding fathers envisioned as symobols of Liberty. Thank goodness that lives on today with the silver and gold bullion coins, but I would like to see it in the regular coins. 3. U.S. Coin, Current Issues: The Lincoln Cent (Obverse) The Brenner portrait of Lincoln on the cent is, IMO, an American classic. The memorial reverse is OK, but I would like to see a change in 2009, which may come with the 200th anniv. of Lincolns birth. Any ideas out there for the new reverse? I cannot really think of any that are good.
I just started collecting, but I think the one that has appealed the most to me are the London elephant tokens. I'd love to own one someday.

to cholmes75: THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the London elephant tokens do look pretty good. i agree with you
I agree with rolltide. Even though I think St Gaudens and Bust Dollars are tops, I have other favorites (my "children"): Indian Cents, Lincoln Cents, Buffalo Nickels, Winged Liberty Dimes, Standing Lib Quarters, Walker Halves, Franklin Halves, Morgan $, Peace $. Least favorite: Barber Coins (very collectible, but not very beautiful -- when I was a kid I used to think Barber was actually the person on the coin -- Barber created a very masculine looking Liberty) (A tangent here . . . . Morgan vs. Barber . . . definitely the apprentice was better than the master!!!!). Other Least Favorites: Sac Dollar (Looks OK, but tones a disgusting gray in circulation), SBA Dollar, Liberty Seated coins (again, very collectible, not very interesting), 3-Cent Silver, Liberty Nickel (another Barber coin), Trade Dollar (ick!).
