I once got a 1940 p jefferson nickel, well, err, i kinda stole it from my sister's coin bank, if that counts as circulation. Aside from that, a 1942 s Lincoln cent, which i kinda got from my Dad's till. And a 1941 p Jefferson nickel that i got from a cashier, so there's that. I always have luck looking in small containers rather than rolls, probably because my area has lots of collectors. Post yours!
Lets see. A 1964 Quarter from a till. A Colorado State Quarter Proof from walmart. A couple of silver nickels. Recently a clipped planchet quarter from the till. And a Proof 1959 Nickel from a pile of nickels my dad had.
Not a big score by any means, but received an 1867 3 cent piece, instead of a dime in change in the 1970's. It's in F-VF condition, and believe me, I didn't feel like I got cheated out of 7 cents - LOL. The way I figure it possibly happened is some coin collector's rotten kid, took it from his dad's collection, spent it at the store, and then I got it in change. I always tell the story that I only wish the rotten kid would have taken his dad's 1916D Mercury dime instead - LOL.
It's buried somewhere in the closet. Plenty of pics of this coin on eBay if you wish to see what one looks like.
Among my souvenirs that I have received in change over the years: 1. 1955-D Lincoln cent - 'BIE' type 2. 1965-D Roosevelt dime - partial clip at 3 o'clock 3. 1970-D Jefferson nickel - clipped at 1 o'clock 4. Roosevelt dime - blank planchet 5. 1944 Mercury dime 6. 1956 Roosevelt dime 7. dateless Buffalo nickel (3 actually) 8. 1954-S Jefferson nickel 9. 1939-S Lincoln cent 10.1951-D Lincoln cent 11. 1902 Barber Half (in a roll of halves) 12. 1913 Buffalo nickel (made out of LEAD) 13. 1992 French 1 Franc (in a roll of Washington quarters) 14. And now and then I get a Canadian one cent.
Nothing too exciting for me. I've found some wheat cents of various dates, including a 1941 (my first) that happens to be my avatar picture. I've also found 3 1943-P nickels over the past few years and a 1964 dime about 8 years ago (Yes, I still remember it vividly even though it was pretty close to half of my lifetime ago; that's how exciting finding a silver coin is for me!). Haven't found a silver quarter yet.
I asked a bank teller for Eisenhower dollars last week, got 10 Ikes and a 1921-S Morgan! Years ago I was in line at an ice cream parlor behind a group of kids, the bills they paid with looked unusual. I exchanged them from the cashier, 8 Silver Certificates.
Bank teller had it hiding behind her other clad half dollar, spotted it in the tray and handed her a dollar bill for both.
Living just outside of Philadelphia you would be amazed at what I find. My best maybe the 98,99,00 WAM. But my favorite is this
In 2005 I purchased a circulated buffalo speared nickle on eBay for $65 and sold it for $15,000 that was my first big score then in 2007 found out about the 2007 the George Washington gold dollars had the missing edge. So I went to the bank and ordered 2 $1000 boxes and found 356 missing edge coins and then sent them to PCGS for grading and made $50k only 1 graded a ms 67 now waiting for the mints next big mistake.
2 years ago at the Deli section in Cub foods grocery store here in MN, I got a VG Indian cent from 1902 in change along with some other generic change. I didn't even notice it until I got home and looked more closely at the change I got. I assume someone spent it there on purpose as a coin drop, which I have occasionally done, too. I later gave the 1902 Indian cent to my barber for a tip. He saves the occasional premium coins I give him for his young son.
