I got an e-mail ad from Berk that says they will have videos of all ancient coins in their current fixed-price sale. The coin they linked to (an Alexander tetradrachm)!/inventory/item-detail/ancient-coins/92323?utm_source=The Greeny Collection of Old Green Tag Holder Gold & HJB Fixed Price List&utm_campaign=GREENY&utm_medium=email
has an excellent video which seems like it gives a really good feeling what what the coin is like. (I wrote them and suggested they omit the irrelevant sound of people in the background.)

That's cool, would take a lot of time to do for each coin, but good on them for doing something a bit different.

This would be a great feature to have on ebay instead of static images.

It's a great idea, and their phone videos are far more accurate to the coin than their usual photography. I've already bought one of the coins they've recorded like this and was seriously considering another before it was purchased out from under me.

Aaron also is having a contest looking for entries of videos about collections (coin or otherwise) by collectors PM'd to him via Facebook. Or its for RoundTable TV group Youtube channel.

I love these videos - wish every dealer did that. They are far better than any photo could ever accomplish.

Although I do wonder why Aaron painted his nails blue for the camera.

Many dealers on Facebook do that, or will provide a video upon request.

While I admit that the coin is a beauty, I can't quite warm up to the blue fingernail polish.

Those who are more athletically inclined might prefer a rocker base made from half a 6" toy basketball. I can not warm up to the skinny format when shooting a round coin but do not know how to crop videos.

Excellent point ;)! I felt the same way watching the video. The screen image should be wider than it is tall.

  19. CT members were recording coins in hand before it was cool.

In all seriousness, awesome that an auction house is implementing this. Gives a great idea of relief, tone, luster, and overall quality.

    Some interesting side notes:

    1. Most/all of the submissions were from those under 25 (and most of those were YNs).

    2. At least half of the videos dealt with the topic of ancient/world coins.

    3. The top 3 finalists revolved around the topic of ancient coins.
