Question #10: The BEP and two private printers printed Food Coupons for the US Department of Agriculture. Name the other two printers.

Bonus Question: For USDA Food Coupons printed after 1976 how can the printer of a Food Coupon be identified from the Coupon itself?

Answer #10: American Bank Note Company and United States Bank Note Company.

Bonus Answer: The printer can be identified from the letter in the date. No letter (Series 1980) was printed by the BEP, letter A (Series 1980A) indicates ABNC and letter B (Series 1980B) indicates USBC.

Kudos (but no points) to those who also added Banknote Corporation of America (BCA) in your answer. While BCA also contracted to print Food Coupons none were issued. BCA coupons were identified by the letter C. After the ABNC-USBC merger, only Series B coupons were printed even though the successor company was ABNC.

Everyone who answered got the main question correct. A couple passed on the bonus.

Question #11: During WWII one of the more monumental jobs of the BEP was the printing of US Defense and War Bonds. By the start of 1943, the BEP was cranking out a million bonds per day. That number doubled to over two million per day by September 1943. What single event accounted for the dramatic increase in production?

Deadline for answering is Wednesday March 21, 2012 at 8:00pm Central.

    The Rules:
