Like the buffalo $ that sold in 2001, the Ben Franklin coin (all four variations) have sold out, do you guys see the value of the coin going up like the buffalo? Let me know what you think...price range, etc.
I think it the Franklins will do VERY well... He was a popular figure in US history and the very limited mintages as compared to other recent commems should bring a premium. Any idea what the mintage totals were for the buffalo's??? The uncirculated founding father should come out with very low mintage numbers since 50,000 of the total of 250,000 mintage was already reserved for proofs in legacy set. The scientist on the other hand had 50,000 unc's reserved for chronicles set + whatever else was ordered of the 250,00 total mintage. No idea yet what prices will be but I would think very high.
Perhaps they will go up in the short term for those who want them now will need to pay a higher price to get them but in the long term I do not see a great market for them. Our nations younger generation is not getting the same exposure and exposure with love that we got as kids plus the demographics are changing. I think Rick has the right idea with his spanish coins. If you are looking for increase profit then I would think that the high end coins will always be high end no matter where they were hammered or minted for the true collector, and the collector with means will always want the best and then I would look at the medium range for spanish and chinese coins. Of course, I am not a dealer or a major collector so what I say about this matter is just one coin collector talking off the top of his head to another coin collector.
Heh, good to know that (will follow what you buy and adjust my buying accordingly). Seriously though, in the short term it should do well. In the long term about as well as any other 250K produced commemorative.
When the 2001 BUF coins came out...the C&C sets sold for around $250 each...I know as by error I ended up with 60 sets of these...I still have 45 sets of them. However the Benny Chronicle sets will not do well if people like CoinWolf are listing them on ebay for a BIN of $95. First of all that auction most likely will be pulled as its in vilolation of the ebay presale listings rules as the Mint is not shipping till Mid or Late April. Secondly if they continue to list with BINs of $95 the sets will NOT do as well as the market can demand. I speak from experience and if you list a BIN lets all use $200 or better. If you start with $95 the price will quicly slide to the list price. If you are going to sell, learn how to play the market!
i agree with touchekidd, I read this morning that all listings on ebay for the franklin coin are being pulled...anybody confirm that.
somebody at coinpeople.com mentioned it, I don't have the direct link and I tried getting to the site, but it's not loading, let me know if you have any luck.
Haha Hahaha. Can you say "price fixing"? Of course, I'm only kidding. There isn't enough of a readership on here to be able to maintain that if there are any dealers willing to undersell you. I bought two C&C sets (one to keep, one to sell) so I certainly hope they go up in price so I can make my money back + a little profit.
looks like we made a few dollars here http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...00&fpos=85302&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=
