Could somebody tell me about this coin? I included what the wording is on the front and back. I assume its Belgium. Any ideas if this is worth anything? Thanks.
Howdy sfeller - Welcome to the Forum !! The coin is the Belgian 5 centimes KM # 55. The only difference between it and KM # 54 is the legends are in Dutch instead of French. The coin was struck in copper/nickel and has a value ranging from 15 cents in Fine to $7 in Uncirculated. There were over 7 million of them minted.
You guys are good! I've had that coin for 20 or so years. Never really gave it much thought until my son got started in his coin collecting merit badge. Thanks for the quick response!
GDJMSP,the official languages of Belgium are actually French,Flemish,& German. The main difference between Dutch & Flemish is the expression of the word for 'Kingdom' - 'Koninkrijk' is the Flemish, whereas 'Koningrijk' is the Dutch form. One sees very few coins inscribed 'Belgien', which is a very new thing that began in around 1990.
