What is the difference between a 1924/11 and 1924/14 Belgian 5 Centimes. I tried finding the explanation in the Krause Catalog of World Coins, but couldn't find any explanation. I quite often find notations in the Kraus Catalog that do not have explanations, which is vexing. Hard to classifiy a coin if there are variations that are not explained. I don't think that's it. This 1924/11 and 1924/14 are listed in the Kraus Catalog as legend in Dutch. It must mean something else. Looking though out the early Belgian coins, I find them listed with dates followed by various numbers such as 1923/13, 1920/10, 1913/0, 1922/1. Therefore these numbers following the date must mean something, but don't believe its the language of the coin. Perhaps there is a Belgian coin expert that can explain it? Regards, Bill
When something is written like that in Krause it means that one number is punched on top of another. Usually if you look at the number there are just lines where there shouldn't be and it looks weird.
Wow, you guys are great! It took a pretty powerful scope to make it out, but my 1924 appears to be stamped over a 14. Its really hard to make out, even on a really clean date, but that's what it seems to be. I wonder why Kraus didn't list this somewhere in their comments or in the beginning information?
