Since 2006, the Royal Mint of Belgium releases a small gold coin with the effigy of a Belgian king. These coins are struck in 0.999 gold and weigh 1.25 gram (size = 14 mm). At the moment coins were released honouring Leopold I (1831-1865), Leopold II (1865-1909) and Albert I (1909-1934). There are still 3 to go: Leopold III (1934-1951), Baudouin (1951-1993) and Albert II (1993-now). Mintages are 15,000 for the Leopold I and II coins, 10,000 for the Albert I coin.
That series was started on the occasion of 175 years Belgian dynasty. Personally I find it a little strange to try and put the two in the same "evil" category; even the mint's own magazine mentions Leopold II's Congo policy by the way. But such thematic series of coins are issued as a complete range, regardless of the merits of one single king, president etc. Christian
One of the major things that presidents have over Kings...you don't usually commemorate bad presidents (James Buchanan in the US presidential dollar series being an obvious exception).
