I have seen a lot of coins that claim to be Belarusian Roubles, but they all appear to be commemorative. With the value pretty chaotic to begin with, I'm wondering if Belarus ever issued coins for circulation. Can anyone confirm this for me?
Yes they do. Check http://www.chervonets.com for more examples of Belarusian coins. Belarus is an independent country from the ex-Soviet Union.
I don't think that there are such things as Belarus circulation coins. They use paper money, and all the coins I have seen are commems ... The central bank also lists commemorative pieces only http://www.nbrb.by/Natiobank/NBRBCoins.eng/all.html but no circulation coins. Christian
Here is a place to buy these.Get your Belarus "Preserve the Beaver" commemoratives today! http://www.belaruscoins.com/
Belarus has only for the circulation banknotes called "Saitze", means "Rabbits" because on the banknotes are animals.
Ok, thanks. I was wondering why I was having a tough time finding any, and I had just read that Kyrgyzstan doesn't use coins.
Tre,are you starting an Axis of Evil & Outposts of Tyranny coin collection? I'm sure that the coins from Zimbabwe would be right up your street. Aidan.
Gxseries,Belarus was named as one of the Outposts of Tyranny in a speech by Condolleeza Rice, who is the current American Secretary of State.Other countries that she mentioned were Zimbabwe & Burma, plus a few others. You could collect coins from these countries if you wanted to. Aidan.
Frankly speaking Belarussian like to use Russian rubles as they are much more attractive for them as a currency. In Russia we still have coins in curculation (even 1 kopeck) though the exchange rate is about 28 rubles per 1 USD. Belarussian memorial silver coins seems very attractive especially when they started to use jewels as a part of the decoration of the coin.
