I bought this coin a while back in a third world slab even though I knew it was artificially toned simply because I find the coin very attractive. I paid a hefty premium as well ($100). While I don't condone doing this very often, sometimes it is okay to ignore financial prudence while enjoying your hobby.

    Any thoughts?

to my eyes, that looks like it boarders on the line between Possibly AT, and Possibly NT...

It does look nice though - but if I truly suspected it was AT, I would have not paid any (or at least, a very small) premium on it.

I'll agree with you that it's pretty, but I don't know if I'd be willing to pay $100 for it. I'm rather concerned with my ability to sell the coins I buy at a later date though so I tend to look for "value" (whatever that is). That said, beauty and value are in the eyes of the beholder. Every once in a while you'll see some fly by night artist selling their wares for astronomical prices for things that (to me) look like they've taken less than an hour to create. Not my thing, but I'm not going to judge.

Bottom line is we're supposed to collect what we like right?

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

It is interesting, yes. I don't think I would have paid anywhere near that amount - I probably would have paid $15 for it.

I am more of a fan of previous half dollars like Walking Liberty and Franklin but to each his own. It is very pretty.

I'm sorry. I respect your opinion, but I fail to see from your photographs why you think this coin is AT. Can you help me out?

May the saints preserve us - but I have to agree with Paul  - AT.

I have some rainbow toned 1971 Kennedys fresh from the oven-I mean bank roll. For you, $60 each, but you have to act now.

I agree with this statement and I think it need not apply to just toned coins.
