Let's just say, love at first sight.
I had to get this beauty.
What do you guys think on the grade and value?
Lots of high detail on the coin.
My camera is charging so I can't take better pics for a little while.

FTWrath, that is a beauty! The blue rim toning is beautiful. That's just what I like to see on these old coins. Not to mention the grade of the coin. Possible old cleaning? I can't say based on the lighting. Either way it's lovely! I'm jealous.

I think there is old cleaning as well. There are lots of hairlines only visible in side lighting, i'm guessing that means it was cleaned but the detail is superb it's almost hard to believe. I'm a novice though so I can't say for sure, but I don't care I loved the coin and had to get it. I'm also a fan of rim toning.
I'll take better pictures as soon as the battery is charged enough.

Oh yeah, ouch. Looks like it was whizzed. Still though, The details are excellent and the toning is nice. Maybe over the years it will continue to tone and cover up those nasty little hairlines.

Yeah I called my coin dealer and he said 100% buy back.
We both inspected it and it did not look that bad at all.
Honestly it looked like just a few small knicks.
But his store doesn't have the best lighting.
It wasn't until I took the pictures of it with my camera in direct light that those hairlines came up like that.
As much as I love the coin I'd like something that will hold value down the road.

It's a coin that was probably cleaned harshly in the 60's and has retoned since... all depends on the price you were charged on if you should keep it or return it.

I paid $500 which I was comfortable with how the coin 'looked' in the store.
I already called Louie and he was very disappointed he didn't even catch it.
I'll just get that FB Merc I was looking at the last time I was there.

With total respect and IMHO, this coin is worth nowhere near what you paid.

I have no idea who your dealer is, but this should have been very clear to anyone making their living dealing coins. If willing to refund your money he deserves credit for accepting his mistake. Sorry this did not work out for the best.

Well the coin is actually overall toned (if you look at the first picture) and i couldn't see a scratch when I was looking at it in store.
Even looking at it now it's very hard to see any hairlines under the toning unless I stick it in light and then they pop-up.
He was pretty surprised when I told him. I've bought a lot and learned a lot from him and this is the first time something like this happened and he's honest enough to admit his mistake, just as I am so no harm no foul.
I guess it's a good thing I ordered a magnifying glass with a UV light, it will come in handy for things like this in the future.
I got a good laugh though because at first he mentioned throwing it in his Heritage lot and selling it before giving it to me. Good thing for his credibility he didn't do that.

Dang, definately an old, harsh cleaning IMO. The hairlines are everywhere and that's a tell-tail sign.

Can't really add to everything that has been said about the coin itself or the value. But it is good that your dealer is taking care of you. Just wonder if the next guy that buys it for $500 catches it~
IHMO anything that old that isn't already slabbed is generally a problem coin.
