Be careful bidding from your eBay summary.

I just lost two auctions because I bid from eBay's summary page and the bid was never recorded on the actual auction. Not a huge deal, but I bid a little higher on one coin (which I won) because I had bids on these other two from the same seller, counting on reduced shipping. Now I bid on another one didn't have AS much interest in, just to take advantage of lower shipping.

Moral of the story - ONLY bid from the actual listing, don't count on the "ease of use" features since they failed me tonight.

    Anyone else have trouble?

I've noticed if i shut the lid of my laptop without closing the Bay, I don't receive text alerts from them. Even though the computer shuts itself off when i close it. Not that this has anything to do with your post jester, but could be useful to someone who really wants that folder of buffaloes.......

Strange... I just placed a bid from my summary page and it took me directly to the auction page for bidding. Then I "increased max bid" from the summary page and that worked fine also. In the OP's case, it might have been one of eBay's "temporary glitches", which seem to be rather common.

I'm not exactly enamored with the new format. I don't think they have improved 'ease of use' in the slightest. The old system was fine.

Something else I don't like is that they stopped sending you emails if you are outbid at the last minute. They must figure the auction is over so you can't bid anymore, but I still want to know that I was outbid. I have to go look at the "Didn't Win" area to see what I forgot that I bid on that I didn't win.

Unless I see something that's within the last 6 minutes, I use bidnapper. I can "set it and forget it" and not have to worry about paying more than I might want to by getting caught up in a bidding war. I'll occasionally check the site to see if an item is either getting close to my bid or exceeding it. I may or may not change my bid accordingly. I win more auctions and have less stress in doing so.

Yeah, I am glad you mentioned it OP. I was wondering what happened. There was a book I was following, (Coins of Roman Antioch for you ancient collectors), and I wasn't counting on many bidders. So I just bid on the auction from my phone instead of sniping it like I usually do. I didn't get the bid confirmation until like 4 hours later. Thankfully I decided to bid like 6 hours before it closed.

Heck with this. I will just go back to sniping everything. :(
