Basic Coin Photography

Been having a bit of fun the last few days experimenting with coin photography. I've been given a Samsung A8 phone to use for work and I wondered how it would do taking photos of coins. I'm thrilled with the results.

I discovered a couple of things. Because of their reflective nature, I didn't need to use artificial light for photos of silver coins. Daylight was fine, don't even need the sun.

However, copper and bronze needed extra assistance with light. Turns out that the LED craft light with an adjustable arm I bought my wife last Christmas is very effective at bombarding a coin with light. I just sit where it is mounted next to the sofa in the lounge, position the coin on the arm of the sofa, play around with the angle of the light and "hey presto" I've been getting some pretty cool results.

One of these days I may get around to putting together some sort of contraption that doesn't rely on my steady hand, but in the meantime, I'm happy with the results I'm getting.

    I 2nd that.

I would change the background, though. Plain white or black, IMHO. Or there might be a special off-white/gray that some people recommend.
