Ok, I was a Civil War re-enactor on and off for many years, since my father was into it and they were FUN! I usually fell in as a Confederate. One day one of my Dad's friends gave me this, telling me I needed at least a penny in my haversack. When I saw it I thought it was real, but he clarified with "Oh, no, there's no real ones left, it's just a fake and junk". Well, now that I'm going through my boxes and piles of hoarded stuff this one had me looking again. Is it a Bashlow restrike? My concern is on the reverse most pics I can find of a Bashlow has fine scratches running almost parallel to the three deep gouges. I don't see those fine lines on this one. Was the Bashlow again copied by taking a mold of one or anything? On the obverse it does have the blobs as well from the hammer taken to the die. Anyway, just trying to figure out if it's really a Bashlow, and then more than "junk" or if it's some copy of a restrike. If it's a Bashlow I think it will be meeting E-Bay soon.
Nope just a copy ill give u melt for it if it is copper 2.5 cents hahaha Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Good thing I asked Couldn't find anything on if they were copied beyond that, or how to recognize them if they were. Beyond a concern of it not having the additional scratch marks running along the gouges on the reverse. How do you tell? Or did I hit one of the main points by accident simply noticing something didn't look right?
