I just got back in chane a 1963 B series note with the signature of Joseph W. Barr as Secretary of Treasury. He had only held that position for about a month. It is well worn with several folds but no tears. Ser# B67505181H. I haven't seen one of these in circulation since I was a kid(a long time ago). You can tell the economy is taking a turn for the worse when people start to spend their collections.

The Joseph Barr notes of that Series are not a rare issue. The Gem condition examples can be forund at 7-12 bucks..even the stars. Nice find considering the note was in circulation.

I'm not a currency collector but the note just felt different than the rest so I gave it a second look. I did know that the Barr notes were a short run. I guess too many were saved at the time to make them of much value today.

Although Barr was only in office for about a month hundreds of millions of notes were issued with his signature.

Still, they're pretty cool for the trivia aspect. I have a full set of CU Barr stars.

    Good eye!

When Barr left office after just one month people thought the notes with his signature would be a short series and therefor valuable so they began hoarding them. But the notes continued in production for 13 months until the plates wore out. So fairly large amounts were made and a great many of them were hoarded by those people who thought they were going to be rare. That's why they are so cheap today some 40+ years later.

A very good find, even if it won't make you rich. I paid $5 for one a few weeks ago. You got yours for $1.

still a nice find regardless, as others have said.

Personally I have found 4 at once!
I kept the best 2 and spend the others

I've seen a few in my day. Not rare but a good conversation piece. Can't beat the price.
