I went around a couple of local antique shops, and spent about £5 ($9.40) on some odd coins, certainly got some bargains, anyone got an idea of total profits I made ??? England 1922 florin F 1916 3d F 1862 1d GF 1967 1d BU (abt ms 62) Centre of a 1950 or 1951 penny, cut out , to resemble a strike on a smaller flan, GVF Small oriental coin, obiviously cast in brass...Chinese cash ?? Spain, 5 centimos 1870, fair Portugal, 20 reis fair/F France, 5 centimes 1855 paris (mm A) France, 5 centimes 1897 paris (mm A) Italy, 10 centesimi 1866 Germany, pfenning 1940 Russia, 50 kopecks 1896 Although I generally collect earlier coins, I am still wondering what these are worth ! I don't own any krause catalougues....
The only profit you have made is your enjoyment of the coins. if you took those very same coins that you paid about $10 for to different dealers tomorrow and tried to sell them - you would be very lucky if they paid you $5 for the entire lot.
One of hundreds, if not thousands, of know varieties cast sometime in the past millenium or so in China, Japan, Korea or Annam (present-day Vietnam). With rare exceptions worth a few cents to a few dollars - mostly <$1.
Umm.... GDJMSP, check some of those prices out in SPINKS' Coins of England and the United Kingdom. A 1921 florin catalougues £3 in F, an 1862 penny £2 in fine.....and the russian piece is SILVER.....the bullion value of just the florin and the 50 kopecks way exceeds $5.........................so I think the wholesale value of all of them would be OVER the stated amount I payed.....though not by much !!! I would have payed way more if I had bought them from a dealer.
Hi Jerome I think that you have got a sweet little deal there just seen a 1922 florin standing at £14.99 in fine condition on ebay LOL any chance of some scans? a lot depends on the definition of Fine & Good De Orc
I dunno orc.....but spink says 3 pounds...so it's probably a scam on ebay...I mean a BRITISH F which is completely different to an american F !! I'll get a photo!
Yeah, I made an error..........It's 1921....which is worth £4 ! However....the ebay person is a scammer if it is only a F...I can't compress my photo's so they are too big to dispaly
Drusus, you are right...but this coin can be bought for a couple of pounds from any coin dealer, and even less from an antique shop or car-boot sale.... I think people sometimes pay maybe 50% more than value....but they would be PRETTY STUPID to buy it for £14.50 if it is a British F!
