Hey guys i was just wondering what do you think is going on with this Baber? Now i know this is not a great looking coin by any means but i was just wondering about the off-color areas (like the cheek and back of neck). Is it some kind of lamination problems or just corrosion? Not sure if the picture show it well but the L I B in "Liberty" shows up well with the rest covered buy some kind of crud and the "E Pluribus unum" shows up well on the reverse. I could get more pics if you need them. Thank in advance for the information. http://www.flickr.com/photos/47325613@N07/4338024701/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/47325613@N07/4338032573/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/47325613@N07/4338838506/ Thanks again.
It is definately corrosion. I have a few pieces in my collection which I have purchased in my earlier days that have this same surface. These sell well on ebay... hint, hint, hint.
OR someone attempted to clean this coin with a building type sandblaster. I've seen those X's on the face of coins before and always wonder why.
Thanks for the answers guys corrosion was my thoughts before i posted. Its a shame because other than the corrosion (which is allot) it is in pretty good condition according to the grading standards in the red book (meaning the Liberty is visible). I got this coin for 1$ at a junk sale and since i don't have any Barbers in my collection i though what the heck. Have a good day and happy hunting!
