Does anyone has a fairly comprehensive list of all the Barber Dime Varieties? I see that http://www.barbercoins.org/BD-Census-Survey-2008-results.html has some of the more common ones listed, however I was wondering if anyone has a more through list. The reason I ask (if anyone cares) I started putting together a complete barber dime collection and interested in getting at least some of the varieties. I just started putting it together, so I'm not very far into it and plan of taking my time with it since there are quite a few other coins and items I collect.

On a semi-similar note, I haven't bought a whitman folder for the coins. Forgive me if this is sort of a greenhorn question, but is there any advantage to getting the folder besides the visual appeal and easy storage. I know a lot of collectors on the site seem to have the folders for coins, so I figured there must be something to them. To me the folder seems to leave the coins a little too exposed to the elements to want to put them in one.

Yeah....I didn't realize there was a difference. I thought they were different words for the same thing. Thanks!

    1) Get an album, much more fun to see your set/collection
    2) Kevin Flynn wrote a book, "The Authoritative Reference on Barber Dimes",
I have about 12 varieties listed and photos in the book.

Much better than the half dollar version, altho the quarter book is pretty good also.

    here it is:
The Authoritative Reference on Barber Dimes by Kevin Flynn,
    8 ½ by 11, 184 pages, published 2004, Softcover $32.95

The primary purpose of the Barber dime book was to list as many die varieties for the Barber dime series as possible. There are many new doubled dies, misplaced dates, repunched mintmarks, and repunched dates which have never been published in any other book. There are 2 doubled dies, both of which are previously unpublished in any book, 26 RPMs, including several new listings. For example, there is a new dramatic 1907-O/O RPM south, and 7 different 1914D RPMs. There are 29 misplaced dates listed in this book as well as 146 repunched dates. For each die variety listed, detailed macro photos make identification much easier. Most of the varieties include multiple photographs showing different details. Included also is a detailed description, diagnostics, pricing, cross references, and comments.
This book is only available in soft cover and is $32.95. Money Order or personal checks accepted. Add $5.00 for shipping and handling via media rate and $10.00 for first class shipping.
