Looks like a cud to me. No referrence I see for that date though.

That is a date that really needs to be looked at closely. If you have the Breen Encyclopedia you will find a few varieties that need to be checked.

The Breen Encyclopedia is on my list for my next purchase. I don't have it yet, though. I was hoping that there would be some info on Coinfacts, but no luck. Guess I'm placing a book order today :)

    Susan,

Your coin appears to have die chips (rather than a CUD). Remember that a CUD borders the rim only and is produced from the edge of the die breaking away. There are no such things as "internal CUDS" either, although many people use that kind of terminology. An error coin rather than a variety and most likely not documented anywhere since it is such a random matter. Nice find.

Thank you to everyone here. I had also posted this on another forum and in the WINS talklist. The general consensus is that this coin is a late die stage but not a variety. There are no anomalies in the date. Not worth a high premium but still a neat find. Thank you again for everyone who helped to educate me in this area. Got some more reading to do about die states, die stages, and die varieties. :D
