I'm fairly sure about this one but thought I'd show it for comments anyway. It appears to be a 1901-O RPD, and from Flynn's book I'd call it RPD-003. The error was not recognized by the dealer I bought it from. I would call it a cherry pick except that it isn't one listed in the guide.
I suppose I can't call it a cherry pick, since I bought it, only that I recognized that it was a variety and the dealer did not. I do not know if it carries a premium over a normal 1901-O, but I am trying to complete a Barber dime set with as many varieties as possible. I paid $150.
I wonder if that really is a proof?? If so, I'd say that's a lucky buy! I guess to me it looks like a solid AU coin, but I'm not great at grading nor am I sure what a circulated (or "impaired") proof would exactly look like...
acanthite 1) Very nice catch, and I agree, it is RPD-003, but an earlier die state than the one in Flynn's book. 2) Any variety that you are able to get that is not attributed is considered a cherrypick. Not just the ones listed in the book. Very nice, I have a bunch of Barber Varieties, and yours is one of the nicer ones. Have you considered joining the Barber Coin Collectors Society? (The BCCS).
