I woukld like to get a few euro type sets together without having to buy the sets or travel to europe and get pocket change. I know that there are some banks in the US that you can exchange foreign money for US money, but can you exchange US money for foreign money? I'm talking hard money of course, not like FOREX or trading sites like that.
Both banks and money changers like Deak Pereira's airport kiosks will go either way on currency exchanges, at different rates that allow them to profit both ways; but they deal only in bills and notes, not coins, A third way to obtain foreign coins is to locate an individual in the target country who will exchange coins with you, much like the P and D partnerships that are such a common way of getting US circulation coins from both mints.
The other way is to try the mint of the country that you would like the set from (Buy direct) De Orc :thumb:
Or you can approach the central bank of the relevant country that you want. Some, like the Central Bank of Malta, will sell both coins & notes, but others, such as the Bank of Sierra Leone are very suspicious of collectors. Most central banks have their own websites. Here's a link to the website of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand; www.rbnz.govt.nz . Aidan.
