Hello been on my travels last couple days to far north of scotland, and i picked up something that may be intresting.

    A 500 dollar note

    written on it says
    confederate states of america
will pay to the bearer on demand
    five hundred dollars
    richmond feb 17th 1864

on left is confederate flag and circle with a horse says d.b.o vindice
at very top has two years after the ratification of a treaty of peace between the confederate states and the united states.

reverse has 500 in middle and 500 in a circle in each corner.

    2nd item

confederate states of america one dollar
has i picture of a ship on it and says
confederate states of america will pay one dollar to bearer
    richmond june 2 1862
also says six months after the reunification of a treaty of peace between the confederate states and the united states.

    condition of both are

500 dollar has tiny nick outta one corner and a small split where it has been folded
also has few stain spots along both sides
    printing is very clear
and my general unqualified opinion is in decent condition for age

the one dollar has same little spot staines ,has nick where its been folded and 3 of the 4 corners has been lost but small none of these nicks go further than the border
once again all printing very clear .

will try to get a photo of them up later today but have put this just now for any idea.

they will also be for sale as banknotes aint my thing.

Very interesting to find Confederate currency in Scotland! Are there sections of the script/handwriting on the note that shows up in red?

If so, this is called the blood of the south, and one of the indicators that the bill might be genuine. Frankly, they can be worth some money, so pictures would be helpful....

They are actually confederate paper/linen notes. I saw a ton of these notes from Richmond at the show.

these notes are genuine, they do have pink in the writing ect.

they also are in an envelope posted from spinks coin dealers in uk.

spink are probably the biggest uk banknote dealer there is.

can someone give me an idea of value

    Something like this?

Many larger confederate notes are faked. Serial numbers must be checked against signatures. Best to be authenticated.

Fakes sell for around a $1

Real can be as high as $25,000.

Be very careful with any denomination above $50

    Not all are marked.

The dollar is probably real. Not many dollar fakes out there. I will look for a link for you to find out the specific signature - serial number matches.

thx they both came in same envelope from spinks coin dealers so im sure there both genuine, this is very big dealer in uk they write lots of price guides ect.

they have age to them and are in circulated condition, but i understand lot of fakes would have been made.

the low serial number on the one dollar certainly sounds intresting too

Many dealers have been fooled over the years. Remember that we are just people.

I don't want you to think that yours is fake. I just want you and others out there to be aware that many are.

    yup certainly
maybe there is someone to send them to to get authenticated or not,im sure with certificates they will be worth a lot more if real

My local coin dealer (That I don't like too much) has been in business his whole life....he's around 55 and has been in several books. He didn't spot that my coin was a fake. So always research and check yourself if you can. I have a high interest in counterfeits anyway.

We have about 100 counterfeit coins that we use for educational purposes. A lot of fake notes also. Some are easily detectable and some require a lot of research.
With parchment paper and a good copier, obsolete notes are easy to recreate.

Do you have any fake modern bills? I've wanted one for awhile. What coin would you say is the hardest fake to spot?
