I bought a 1935 10 lire italy banknote held toghether with tape at a coin show for 0.50. Is it worth keeping yes or no?
Why did you buy it? to me that is the main question, I would happily buy a taped note if it was something I had been hunting or I knew was rare. It all boils down to why you wanted the note in the first place
If it cost nothing and it's reel purty, than it's a keeper. Of course, with tape on it, it'll never really be worth anything - unless it's ultra rare. My wife is from West Africa and I'm trolling around for notes from World War 2 because her dad was "enrolled" into the French WWII effort. I am not a rich man. If I find something that is taped and is what I am looking for, I KNOW it will make her happy. Remember, not everyone is looking for CRISP - some just want "good enuff".
Lol, spoken by a real brother. :thumb: But, just remember this, even though you guys don't like each other now, she is still a family member, and that's what makes the practical jokes all worth it. Did she get it for you, or is it hers? Phoenix
i wouldnt care about tape. i got some notes ruined by fire (when they were still in the plastic), or been cut, glued, taped, and a bunch of other methods. If you are striving for the Gem quality collection - then dump the garbage! If you looking for a collection that most can afford - then keep that treasure!!! i would keep it!
Luc, Phoenix kinda hit it here but not totally. You're 8 years old (saw that on another thread). You and your sister will have good times and bad times but you're still brother and sister. KEEP THAT NOTE. Someday it will be one of your most valuable possesions. I'm 45 and my sister is 52 so think about that please. clembo
:thumb: What I started to say, but couldn't think of the right words without getting real sappy, so I just used the alternative route. But, you covered what I didn't basically. luc, remember, you could lose your coin collection, friends, vision, etc, but you will most likely always have your family, and that is one of the most important things you can have in life man. :thumb: Hang onto them. Phoenix
amen I cant afford crisp notes, and actually, i prefer them to be a little wrinkled or dirty - it gives it character.
I'd keep it and if you ever come across a better one you can upgrade. I have an 1899 $5 Silver Certificate that is being held together by tape. Not the prettiest I've seen. However, the price was right and it is the only one I've seen in the local coin shop. So I'm happy I grabbed it when I did.
my 1896 bison note has some tape on it, also has a small hole from the car fire it was caught in (if you belive the guy who sold it lol) But like Pirata72, its what i could afford, and i really wanted an example for my colection .. so ....
