My freind has a big collectioc of coins and banknotes that he would like to sell.

How could we figure out how much its worth?
    How do we grade them?
How do we sell it (to get the most for its value)?

    I appriciate your help.

    Thanks

If you don't care to do a good deal of research to evaluate and catalog the collection then the easiest way is to post the nearest big city to you and have us recommend a few dealers in the area. Take the coins to a couple of dealers and allow them to make offers. You may even get lucky and one of them will take the coins on consignment to one of their upcoming auctions (I know one of my local dealers has a few auctions per year). If there is no local auction to consign to then just accept the highest price offered and sell them that way. You will get a less money, but it is quick and you will be able to move the entire collection quickly.

    I couldn't disagree more!

If you go to a reputable dealer, expect to get 100% of the wholesale value. All of the pricing sources mentioned are estimating retail values, and no business can survive if it pays retail for its inventory.

Frankly, in a capitalistic society I get a little tired of all the griping about coin dealers who try to stay in business by making a profit.:headbang:

When you know as much about the value of your coins as a reputable, experienced dealer, you can sell them at retail piece by piece. Until then, either keep them or sell them in bulk to someone who will sort, attribute, evaluate, store and insure them while they sell off piece by piece. ;)
