Here are three "Bank of Upper Canada One Half Penny" issues. They are dated 1852, 1854, and 1857. I picked these up on ebay a couple of years ago for about $5 each. I don't know if that was a good price or not, but I love the look of them never-the-less. Thanks for Looking Ben
Ben,you have got a nice lot of Upper Canadian St. George Halfpennies there. There are 2 types of the 1854 depicting how the '4' in the date is written. The 1857 is a very underrated coin.I picked up an 1857 pair of the St. George 1/2d. & 1d. in an auction a few years back. We see the 1850,1852,& 1854 1/2d. & 1d. coins over here. There is a scarce variety of the 1850 1d. that has a dot between the cornucopiae tips on the reverse.I have got one of those. Aidan.
Very nice coins, Ben. Now you are missing only 1850 dated half penny to complete this date set. Also, 1850 dated half penny is known in coin and medal orientation minted by two different mints. Regards, Ballabh Garg
Ben, I have a few canadian bank tokens also, and I believe I paid about the same price you did. They are very inexpensive compared to US large cents, hard times tokens, and civil war tokens.
Yep, they are inexpensive when compared to similar US issues. Did you see those others I posted today?
I looked at them. I've never found it easy to buy canadian coins. Canada doesn't seem to have many internet coin dealers. I guess coin/token collecting isn't very popular up there.
The coinage alignment pieces are the Heaton's Mint striking,& the medal alignment pieces are the Royal Mint (Tower Hill,London) striking. This is the case with the 1852 issue of both the 1/2d. & the 1d.,not the 1850. They are among the most attractive of all British Commonwealth coinage designs.Yes,these are listed in the 19th. Century Krause catalogue as coins. Aidan.
