Hi, I am a coin/bill collector. My uncle got my started and I havent been real serious about getting into it. Today I made my biggest purchase to add to my collection. i am now wondering if its fake I cant tell but I just got a weird feeling. Its 2 confederate notes, both date Feb 17, 1864. One is a 10 dollar bill and other is 100 dollars. I paid 85 for both. Can you tell if they are real or not. Here are pictures of each. Matt
They look good to me, although it's hard to tell from pics. If they're crisp unc that was a pretty good price. If they're Circulated the price was still ok but not great. Nice looking notes, congrats Nick
Somewhere in this "library" of mine, I have a list of all of the reproduced Confederate notes. I'll see if I can't find it. Your notes may be real, may be fake, I'm not sure which right now. I once bought a Confederate $500 note for $50. (Long story made short) Looked and felt real to me (what do I know!) took it to the local dealer, he couldn't positively authenticate it. Come to find out, General Mills (I think) offered several different types of Confederate reprints as the "surprise" inside thier cereal boxes back in 1964 (100 years after the original notes were printed) I still have that "$50 surprise" as a reminder to always do your homework before parting with your money.
