Well..I ordered 4 boxes of pennies and 1 box of nickles from my pick up bank last Thursday. The vault teller was not there so they took the order anyway. They said it would be in 1/17/12 (yesterday). They did not call me yesterday or today to tell me if it had arrived. So then I called today and spoke with the vault teller and she said that it will now be in next Wednesday 1/23/12. I was mad because my order had been forgotten. So i drove to the bank that same branch and requested 2 boxes of pennies an 1 box of nickles. They had 1 box of pennies so at least i have some thing to search till Wednesday. But while i was getting them,i always make it a habit to check the teller trays for halves and dollar coins and if i can see any silver dimes and quarters. She had 3 Eisenhower dollars so i asked for them and got them.Well what a find! I got 2 1971d's and a 1971 SILVER!I was so happy that a bad day turned into a good one!I will post the results of this box next Wednesday!:smile
No only specially not for circulation S mint 'blue' Ike's were released in a 40% silver version. There are regular S mint Ike's though also so you have to weigh them to tell the difference as not all S mint Ike's are silver most found in circulation are clad it's rare to find a true silver clad in circulation and the silver clads weigh more.
mine does have blue around the rims only 1 of them has this though. But all 3 of them are 1971d. So no silver awww. Thanks Blisskr i do not know much about dollar coins so thanks for telling!Ill try to post a picture later!
This has happened a few times to me. Best case they will get used to you ordering, be friendly and have them for you most of the time, as long as you are consistent and train them properlt. Average case they will remember to order for you most of the time but maybe give you attitude because you are making them do extra work. Worst case they will frustrate you consistently and make it almost impossible for you to get coins regardless of how often you stop in or call them because they simply do not want to bother. My old primary bank made it seem like they needed DNA and eye scans from three seperate employees just to get into the vault. Now they get all of the coins that I don't want. I don't wait and see how long it takes them to put them away in the vault, though.
Just to add any silver Eisenhower will have an S mint mark and be either a proof or regular business strike, however like I said not all S mint marks are in fact silver. Besides looking at the edge or ring testing the best way to determine the difference is weighing the coin regular clad coins weigh 22.68 grams whilst the 40% silver clad weigh 24.59 grams. They are called 'blue' Ikes because they came in a blue envelope from the mint originally, the silver proof Ikes are often called brown ikes because they came in a big brown box from the mint.
Thanks Blisskr for the info. Glipper1985, i just found out that a distant relative of mine works at that bank,And also the vault teller is nice to me because i know my distant relative and her are good friends. So she assured me that it would never be forgotten again. The vault teller told me that i could bring in unrolled coin to her any time.(She said it was easier on them)She said it would be no problem if i wanted to order coins as long as i pick them up.So i got a good pick up bank!(BTW my distant relative saves me halves.)
