I was down at my town home in Ft Lauderdale doing a little banking at a Bank Atlantic Branch when I spotted over $10 face of silver half dollars. I asked for all the half dollars the guy had. He ended up have $30 face all 65-69's and 4 where 64's! Not a bad trip to the bank....about a $90 profit!:hail:
I always look in the teller's trays to see if they have any silver. It gets kicked out of the counting machines because it has a different weight than the clad coins so the tellers put them in their trays and give them out to customers. They are pretty good about giving me what I want when I ask. I've only run across one teller that said she collects them for her father. You have to respect a fellow numismatist's efforts. :mouth:
That was a great haul...best I had ever done was 1 silver quarter......have had even worse luck in Coinstars
Try asking them to get some out of the vault. My experience is that even when they say they don't have any, they do, just not in their drawer. They just don't want to go to the effort of going and getting some rolls from the vault, LOL.
same here 8 yrs of us collecting has left me with one silver quarter and one dime . talk about bad luck this far into may and not a single find. things are sure getting worse.
You think you have it bad? I've only found a silver quarter, and later on that day found out I had a hole in pocket! Guess which pocket the quarter was in? Very awesome finds, my bank never gets any halves really. Guess I'll stick to buying mine. Very nice. :thumb: Phoenix
I had never before gotten anything silver so it was a shock even when I left the bank... I felt like I robbed the bank!
That is truly amazing. Around here almost every bank teller has people that are waiting for anything that appears to be older than a few days old. I always see coins on the side and when I ask I am told sorry, reserved for my son, my dad, my husband, a neighbor, uncle and on and on and on. However, I am always asked if I want the new dollar coins. The just can't get rid of those.
Nice score on the silver. I finally went to a bank and asked for $100 in rolls of 1/2 dollars. They said they'd have to get them from the vault. When I searched through the I found 1-1964 D; 4 1965-69 coins and a SBA $1! When I saw the gap in the roll I figured they slipped me a quarter. But it was a SBA $1. Nice enough for my 1st try at bank silver.
Yeah, I know. I ask for halves, they scrunch up their face in "sympathy", and say "Naa-o-- but I have the dollar coins." EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I love it when they say "No, but we have silver dollars" and after I get excited and all they show me all these SBAs. :goof: Talk about a let down. Phoenix
