Arrived at Whitman show around 1pm today. Not looking for much this year - art medals, 2011 whitman redbook, 2010 boy scout commemorative proof for one of the kids, plastic NGC boxes for slabbed coins. Bought the 2011 Redbook for $11.25 from booth #1327 (lowest price I could find at show) this guy always seems to have the best book prices at the show, but limited titles. While I'm waiting to buy the book his partner spent at 10-15minutes explaining to a woman the differences in prices among the dollar coins on display and he knew the woman wasn't going to buy anything. "I'm looking for dollar coin for my son but i'm not going to buy it now." Really good guys and fun to talk with. from another booth Bought the 2010 boy scout proof commemorative w/ box & coa for $55.00, bought a ten trillion zimbawe note for $5.00. didn't buy any art medals as the prices had escalated very nicely even on some medals I wanted to buy that I had seen at the show in June. One dealer was selling silver bullion for very little over spot while others were asking $2 - $4.00 above spot. Many dealers wanting to buy gold and some of them aggressively soliciting from people walking buy. Every dealer i asked if they are buying gold answered in the affirmative At the check in booth picked up a couple of coupons for $2.00 off admission to the Odyessy's Shipwreck, Pirates & Treasure exhibition at the local science center. Might be interesting to view the recovered artifacts including coins, gold bars, etc. I've traded this stock (omex) for years. This one is definitely not a buy/hold. I believe their recovered coins are overpriced. http://www.shipwreck.net/
TH, Don't remember his name but it's booth #1327. After entering the hall walk to the far end then turn right go to the end of the aisle he's in booth #1327. Yep, very active show but rained all Weds night and Thurs suspect some stayed away because of the weather. Not large crowds on the floor when I left around 4:30pm. a number of empty tables not sure if vendors hadn't arrived yet or if they aren't coming. A few of the smaller dealers told me it's been a tough year another told me it's been a tough three years. OTOH, I didn't hear any complaints from the gold coin dealers or the larger US currency dealers.
In show lobby dealer selling books, sleeves, etc but I found better prices on the show floor. Whitman Publishing had a big display but lower prices available from other vendors. Publisher of Coin World and Coin Values giving away free copies of magazine. Don't remember where the booth is. Ask around. BTW, No Sales Tax.
Not sure but I think it might be J&S Collectibles 718-323-1930, 800-461-0238 pin 00 out of NY. They also sell coins but they didn't have what I wanted.
