Went to the Baltimore show on Saturday - was a lot different then when I usually go on Friday. A lot of dealers packed up early (starting around 1:00PM). Saw some nice slabbed unattributed RPM slabs and moved on to look for raw coins came back to the table 1/2 hour later and the dealer was packed and gone . Well I did make some nice finds besides those. Heres a 1943P RPM#26 with die clash. ANACS table said it was an MS64.
1949 that I picked out of a bargain bin only cause it had nice steps and the price was right. Didn't notice the Die gouge on cheek till I got home. Don't think it adds any value but I thought it was kinda cool!
1967 SMS I picked out of the same bargain bin as the 1949. Only picked it because nice SMS nickels are getting up there in price and this was $1. Didn't notice the DDR until I got home - DDR#4 I beleive.
great stuff !!! Please explain or describe your method for such clear close-ups, I have had no luck at all picturing RPM's and such. Great job on the finds as well as well as the pics.
1945P unattributed RPM#20 P/P/P/P grade PCGS MS65. 1942P Unattributed RPM #? Paid more for these than I would have like to but had eyed these earlier and where the last things I bought on the way out..
I take the close ups using the macro on my digital camera with a 24X loupe. For RPM's got to take several pictures with different lighting angles. Took me a while to get the hang of it but can get some decent pics fairly quickly now.
Nice pics! and great finds!! The last show I went to the dealers just didn't seem interested in Jefferson nickels and there weren't that many...I hope the next show will be better. Jack, When I'm taking photos of RPM's I always turn them black and white---I find it easier to see and ID the RPM that way--- Speedy
Thanks Speedy. I just love this dealers bargain bins. He's always in the same spot and I head straight for his table every time. Although I didn't find as much in his this time, the 1967 SMS DDR made it worth it and I picked out 3 IKES and a 1945D nickel that I beleive has a minor RPM as well. There was a guy looking through the bins next to me and was picking out all the walker halves for $5 each he said it was below melt. Wish I had money to pick out some silver!
Thanks for looking and welcome to cointalk! Where abouts in Mass are you from? I'll be heading to Athol, Mass tomorrow for the Thanksgiving holiday!
nickelman, Those are some really nice finds! You gotta love Cherrypicking unattributed RPM's, DDO's and DDR's in PCGS and NGC slabs! There are so many slabbed coins that have unattributed Errors and Varieties at Coin Shows, that if you knew how many you missed, you would probably be sick! I wonder how many of these (percentage-wise) are due to not being detected by the submitter (owner) or how many are not attributed due to the submitter (owner) being too cheap to pay the extra cost of attribution??!! Frank
I'm in Grafton...near Worcester. Have a good trip and be safe! p.s. I do like your sig line !! :thumb:
I think a lot are from bulk submitters while others are from submitters that do not know about the variety/error. Also PCGS and NGC WILL NOT annotate most varieties on there labels. They only annotate the chosen few they deem worthy. If I wanted these slabbed with the Variety Attribution I have to go with ANACS or ICG.
