I assume, Baltimore being a huge city, there are quite a few hunters here. Does anyone know if the area is picked clean, though? I used to hunt in OKC, and found plenty... in Phoenix, I found plenty, and in small towns there's almost always a good amount of treasure to be found. But in Vegas, I found just 2 silver dimes in over $50,000 of hunting around the city... and one silver quarter in my change at a store (LOL!) After that, I haven't done any hunting at all for a couple of years, but I kinda want to get back into it. Just checking the waters here in Baltimore before I jump in, though.
There aint much treasure left to be found out there man. There are a lot of hunters out there. I entirely gave up since the time did not provide significant reward.
People really look through $50,000 worth of coins to find two silver dimes? Wouldn't it make more sense to work a few hours, then buy a bunch of them?
It's not about just having them - otherwise no one would ever hunt. It's about the hunt itself, the thrill of finding something good and pulling it from the heap. At least, for me. I don't CRH in order to get rich and retire, but because I enjoy it.
You didn't say whether you live in the Balto. area, but like BB4C said, it might benefit you to try some of the small town banks on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake. Another possibility might be the counties of Western MD. Chris
Harford County.... haven't found any silver from CRH, just clads that I used to make complete modern sets.
I haven't tried my hand at anything in the city. I'm about an hour east of downtown and have had decent luck at some of the smaller "local" banks and credit unions. I search maybe 4000 dimes and 3200 nickels a month and usually end up with at least one silver and a few other keepers to show for the effort. If you ever have any reason to be in northern Baltimore County, I think that's where I'd try picking up my rolls.
