This thread will be the 13th and last Jefferson Nickel GTG threads that I have posted over the last three days. I will try to provide links to the successive threads so that everyone who responds to this thread will be notified. Each thread will start with the words "Baker's Dozen" as well so they can easily be found using the search function. Please GTG of the 1945-S Jefferson Nickel shown below. I have attached a poll for you to cast your vote and you may select up to 3 different things: the numerical grade, Full Steps or not, and the + designation. As always, comments welcome, and please remember to vote in the poll. I am going to be busy tomorrow, so all the reveals will be posted Sunday morning before the start of the NFL games, 12/13/2020.
This hasn't come up yet, but I am going to put it out there since the steps are not "no brainer" full steps, rather if they are full they just get there. Greysheet Price Guide: 1945-S MS67: $120 1945-S MS67 5FS: $1,850 Does knowing that price gap make you want to change your mind about the full step designation.
I think this coin is really close. I assume with those prices there aren’t many graded FS so the odds are this isn’t. I think the coin deserves the FA designation as I have see worse with it but based on those numbers I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t get it. It is close under the third pillar. Even though I’m probably wrong, I’m going to stick with my original opinion on this one.
Cointalk Average Grade: 66.54 Cointalk Full Steps %: 40% think coin is 5FS ICG Grade: MS67 This coin is definitely the hardest to grade because of the steps which are so close to being full. The coin itself is stupendous. Undoubtedly one of the very best 1945-S Jefferson Nickels I have ever seen. The luster is way above average for the issue, the eye appeal and color are fantastic, and the strike is very strong. In ICG plastic, this coin will trade at the PCGS MS66+ level, so considering the price bump alone, I would be a fool not to crack & cross this coin into PCGS plastic. The grade of 67 is almost guaranteed, and I would expect an MS67+ grade with a real chance at PCGS FS.
