Does anyone know of a source for canvas bags for junk silver? I am in need of several of the half bag size.

Some companies can print your own company name/address on new canvas bags. I always thought that was an interesting idea...sort of like having pens or keychains made as giveaways (only more expensive).

ND has good advice. If you just have a few any dealer should be able to fix you up. Don't be surprised if they charge you a few dollars for a few bags. Another idea is to call some of the bigger banks in your area...try to reach someone that works in the vault or coin room.

    Thanks for the replies.

I called one dealer in Austin and he said that he doesn't sell them. He buys from a California firm that only sells to dealers. Guess I'll call a couple others and also check with a larger bank than we have in the small Texas town. Later.

Check with your local grocery store also.

    Will try the grocer.

I have called several coin dealers and several banks and none of them have any. If I were in Austin and could visit the banks I'd probably get a better response. The little banks in my area haven't a clue as to what I am asking for. The grocery store is a possibility.

    Thanks, Jody

Funny I couldn't get links like that to come up with Google. I tried several combinations of words, but then what do I know. If any of those places will sell just a few instead of a hundred, I am all set.

There are those who use search engines - and then there are those who use search engines. Like anything else - there are a few simple tricks that are often very helpful. When I am looking for info about something numismatically related this is what I do.

I always start of using the Advanced Search - and only use one word - coin. Then I use the Search Within Results link and add the next word. And then repeat the same thing with the next word etc etc.

So in this case I would have first used coin - then used dealer - then used coin bags. I just did this - it took about 10 seconds on a DSL connection to come up with this Link

Now if I had scrolled down the page a bit more or performed 1 more key word search - I probably could have narrowed it down a lot more. But I think you get the idea.

The same thing works if you are trying to identify a coin say. Just start out the same way - but on your first try of Search Within Results - type in the legends on the coin just as they are. You'll be amazed how fast you know what you wanted to know.
